Carbon brushes rely on graphite as their main component as it is known for its excellent electrical conductivity and its smooth gliding characteristics. These brushes find applications in various electric motors in vehicles, e.g. in petrol pumps, starter motors, window regulators, windshield wipers and sunroofs.
Graphite is used in auto batteries as a material for anodes, particularly in lithium-ion batteries. Thanks to its excellent conductivity and stability, graphite facilitates efficient storage and release of energy. This helps to extend service life and enhance battery performance.
Graphite is utilized in brake pads and friction linings to enhance their performance and durability. It reduces the friction between components which ensures an even braking effect and less wear and tear. Graphite also helps to dissipate heat, thereby preventing the brake pads from overheating and extending their service life.
Graphite plays a crucial role in the production of forged components, particularly for parts such as connecting rods and gear shift components. The addition of graphite improves the forgeability of the metal which leads to a more even distribution of the material properties and higher surface quality.
Graphite is finding widespread use in the production of sintered parts which excel on account of their high precision and strength. Sintered parts containing graphite as a component offer outstanding gliding characteristics and resistance to wear and tear which makes them particularly suitable for use in demanding automotive applications. These sintered parts are employed in various areas in vehicles, including in engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms and electrification systems.
Graphite is employed in lubricating greases for windshield wiper coatings in order to ensure low-friction wiper movements and a long service life. Thanks to its outstanding gliding characteristics, graphite reduces wear and tear on the wipers, ensuring that they work evenly and quietly, even in adverse weather conditions.
Graphite finds use in acoustic insulation mats to improve sound absorption in vehicles. Thanks to its outstanding damping characteristics, graphite helps to effectively reduce vibration and noise. This ensures a quieter, more comfortable driving environment by significantly lowering the noise level in the interior of the vehicle.
Graphite is used for fire prevention in textiles and foams, e.g. in vehicle seats. Due to its heat-resistant and fire-retardant characteristics, graphite serves as an effective additive reducing flammability and boosting fire resistance.
